The world moves on, for all is ephemeral,
So also once-endearing voice ceases to call;
Where once stood a friend’s cherished face,
With changing skies, solitude took its place.
In solitude, I found a serene, tranquil space,
Where time grew gentler, life found grace;
Asking no questions, it allowed me to heal,
Never judging my silences or wounds I feel.
But solitude, a trusted friend, has a flip side,
Has ghostly shadows lurking round the bend;
Sometimes silent hours grow cold and long,
Until even the silence feels strangely wrong.
Then uninvited loneliness creeps in furtively,
And shatter calm I had found so peacefully;
The day is bright, yet it feels like dim twilight,
Stealing life’s radiant glow from aching sight.
For one can manage with none by their side,
Yet find a vibrant world Still blooming inside:
And one may stand where crowds convene,
But feel more lost than they have ever been.
While solitude can heal every painful loss,
Mending the broken bridges we must cross;
Contrarily, bitter loneliness reminds our soul,
Only love and bonding make us truly whole.
True healing solitude sets free love and grace,
Shadows of loneliness bring gloom, disgrace;
The former allows my soul to grow and set free,
The latter holds me captive, I cease to be free.
