A Thousand Lamps, One Heart

Editor’s Choice

This Diwali, let our earthen lamps ignite
A deeper grace, warmth through the night
Let every little light become a prayer
For all the hidden scars they silently bear.

On this pious day, let a lamp burn bright
For ill-fated souls that never saw a daylight
For lives that ended before they began—
Unwritten tales, beyond our span.

A lamp for deep bonds that broke apart
For silent, oozing wounds within the heart
Inseparable ties undone by fate’s cruel art
And trust once broken, tearing souls apart.

A lamp for dreams that lost their wings
For aspirations that died before their springs
For fairytale castles built on skies of blue
But ill-fated dawn diffused like drops of dew.

A lamp for blooms & buds crushed in prime
Denying the chance to bloom and thrive
For tender, green shoots laid low by might
Before they reached the sun’s first light.

A lamp for achievements never cheered
For triumphs in campaigns unseen, unheard
For those who scaled these heights alone
But their finest hour was never known.

Also, a lamp for failures denied a chance,
For feet once stumbled, barred from advance
For the resilient souls astute to rise again
Had life allowed them a chance yet again.

A lamp for forebears now out of sight
Whose blessings still surround our night
Though time has claimed their mortal frame
But love lives on, beyond eternal sleep’s claim.

A lamp for those souls who cherished me
Whose loving care I was too blind to see
Whose priceless emotions I failed to prize
Till absence and loss taught my inane eyes.

A lamp for callous souls, who turned away
Whose hearts had no feelings left to say
May they find joy and peace along their way
That I bear no grudge for love’s dismay.

And one special lamp, a little unique apart
For the friend still cherished in the heart
Whose absence in life, time cannot erase
Whose remembrances still has a pious place.

Let every Diwali flame, equally as it ascends
Be love for forgotten, foes and friends
Let kindness shine where grief has trod—
A thousand lamps, one human heart, one God.
