My Humming Word

Friendship is Happiness

Editor’s Pick

You said once with a smile half-lit but free:
“True happiness in life is having friends
…as wonderful as thee.”
The quote was simple, and passing probably
Yet somewhere deep within my mind and soul
These words were rooted perpetually.

Ever since, life took a bizarre turn and course
The days and years have wandered far
Through thick and thin ruin, rise, and rain
The life, if worn its crowns of fleeting joy
Then had no less share of melancholy and pain.

You too changed with the passage of time
Like the skies with the weather change
Till even warmth once retained by heart
No longer felt the same.

Yet through the wreckage time has strewn
And everything that remained undone
One truth survived the storms of fate
While other battles were won or gone down
I learnt to be responsive and not reactionary
Even if you were not favourably disposed my way.

The friendship is eternal hitherto fore…
If ever your heart looked affectionately
Once more in my direction’s way
My happiness would still bear your name
As in yesteryears, truly and earnestly.
