My Humming Word

  1. Poem

Lithops – A Living Stone

It looks like a stone upon the desert floor
Often unnoticed where the dry winds roar
It wears neither branches nor leaves or shade
But twin green vessels that will never fade.

Lithops’ mottled skin disguises what is there,
Its life concealed within the desert’s glare
It hoards the precious water when it comes
And saves each drop before the heat benumbs.

A bright flower rises from its stony seam
While hidden light sustains its modest frame
When scarce rain wakes the thirsty earth again
The seeds awaken to the gentle rain.

Its nightly breath preserves loss during day
This way everyone can learn to live economy
It learned the wisest way to endure on Earth
So not all that hides is weak or without worth.

Never judge a thing how it shapes the ground
For a quiet life is where true strength is found
The survival dictates what to keep or give
To store the wealth that teaches us to live.
