My Humming Word

The Pouch of Promise

Kangaroo Speaks…

I have powerful hind legs to leap and bound,
Muscular tail props my weight on the ground
My body has a tawnish or greyish-brown shade
Standing as tall as a human, sturdily made
A deep belly pouch keeps my joey secured
My pointed ears stay ever keen to every sound.

Nature endowed me a unique responsibility
To dedicate self to a cradle of life’s uncertainty
Before my child can truly see or yet grow strong
By instinct, he climbs where his heartbeats belong
At birth, blind and fragile as well scarcely formed
Seeks warmth with life unfinished, yet transformed.

My marsupium looks like a pouch of flesh and skin
But it serves a living promise for my newborn
Cozying in its warmth, though sightless and small
The feeble young joey grows strong and grows tall
It drinks the rich milk in its safe and cozy space
Till ready to leap on ground to join the wild race.

My powerful tail, patient legs shape every bound
Progress is not just steps but courage to leave ground
The thirsty plains and burning sun may test my will
Yet every leap proclaims aloud: I’m rising still
So judge me not by the bounds alone that I defy
But by my endurance to nurture life & still rise high.
