My Humming Word

The Cobalt Javelin

Sailfish is a restless nomad of the open ocean
Mostly occupying the sunlit epipelagic zone
The cobalt javelin is too swift to petrol the blue
Where warm equator currents cut the deep hue.

Its massive dorsal and extremely long pelvic fins
Along the underside are a pair of special grooves
Its body is packed with high-density dark muscle
All this nearly transforming it into a kinetic engine.

Engineered to rewrite the laws of fluid dynamics
To minimize drag and stable, straight-line attacks
In sudden light, fish’s iridescent skin colours wake
An electric flash to make the scattered shoal quake

After mating, eggs are left to drift in ocean chance
A million seeds at a time within the currents’ dance
Hooked for fishing game then freed to swim again
Yet giant trawlers drag them to a tragic grave in vain.
