My Humming Word

A Companion of man since ancient age
With enduring service, fidelity and grace
Through dusty trails before progress began
The horse became his most trusted own.

With the arching neck and flowing mane
It galloped freely in rough terrain or plain
Its dark and tender eyes, so deep and clear
It could sense the hand, respond to fear.

Through the ancient kingdoms far and wide
The king and knights rode with fearless pride
Through the victory, sorrow, loss and pain
It raced with man in thunder, wind and rain.

It drew heavy plough and cart along the way
Engaged with the working world every day
Across the deserts, hills and valleys steep
It bore its vital charge through dangers deep.

The faithful messenger and traveller’s friend
It bridged the ancient roads from end to end
The modern engines now command the day
Yet it touches human hearts in its own way.

O noble horse, so amazing so wild and free
A thriving bond that binds both you and me
Through ages past, no passing time can sever
A trusted friend in need and a friend forever
