Finding him alone
In his lonely life
Penitence often sneaks in
Teases him with a rueful smile
Then waves and vanishes
Quietly reminding old days.

Then he surmises
Why didn’t he say
What was needed to be said
Why didn’t he do
What was needed to be done
To seal their bonding, and
Avoid longing and pain lifelong.
