My Humming Word

I wonder if you still remember
That fateful summer’s July day
When we bade a final good-bye
Somewhere around the mid-day.

You were indeed looking at your best
With as usual beautiful body and soul
So chirpy, cheerful with gleaming eyes
An Elated spirit ahead a magnificent life.

I remained quiet although a bit unnerved
While trying my best to look composed
Maintaining my outward calm and smile
As if the rendezvous was just a routine.

I did maintain the courtesy to offer you tea
You gracefully agreed and then made it too
Conversation followed just to keep it going
And a friendly promise to keep in touch too.

At the end, while fast losing my composure
I couldn’t even join you for a safe departure
While you were slowly walking away from life
Hapless I watched from an archway; transfixed.

Not that you were in a sort of risk or need
Yet how come I remained so uncivilized
You may not even mind or be aware of this
But this will remain forever my regret in life.
