A large chunk of deaths
On account of snake bites
Are due to shock out of fear
Otherwise friends of the farmer
Snakes themselves bite out of fear.
Fear comes in varying forms
And people get anxious with
The fear of loss
The fear of failure
The fear of safety
The fear of darkness
Of ghosts, and even death
The list is long and countless…
Perception of an imminent danger
Leads to sometimes rational
But most often irrational fear –
A nameless and shapeless terror
And this is worst enemy within
Which all of us need to endure.
As per an Arabian folktale
In a rendezvous on a desert road
A wise old man asked Pestilence
The cause of his hurrying ahead
He is due to take 5K lives in Baghdad
Pestilence replied before going ahead
In return journey old man reproached
You were due for 5K lives, took 10K instead
And Pestilence swore honestly he didn’t
He took 5K and no more, fear killed rest.
