My Humming Word

As was anticipation and expectation
Yet again on Father’s Day celebration
Many tributes received for daddy dear
And we humans are always very clever
For everything within our imagination
We have earmarked a day for jubilation.

All of us are sons and daughters
All of us are fathers and mothers
We have universal values and obligation
Do we really need an annual celebration?
We have our recurring duties and emotions
As day to day social and moral obligations.

When I look back in the yesteryears
As a growing adolescent or teenager
And look at it from son’s perspective
At times he was neem but mostly nectar
We agree or disagree is another matter
It remains true for most of the fathers.

A conflict of generations remains all times
What was then right from father’s perspective
Though bit inconvenient to son for his motive
The son as father realising now, holds that true –
Son had talent but father wisdom and experience
And one doesn’t need greying to get enlightened.

As growing son or daughter, father took our care
While aging they need us, we must take their care
As growing or grown up adults, we celebrate
And on auspicious occasions, we pay tribute
But for the fathers in our daily approach
Will we stop saying ‘Daddy don’t preach’?

1. Neem (Melia azadirachta) is known for its bitter taste.
2. Celebrations without genuine love and care for parents have no meaning, which is apparent from the growing numbers of neglect and misbehaviour these days particularly for old aged.
