My Humming Word

The Monarch of Abyssal Blue

From icy poles to warm tropical equator seas
The monarch of the abyssal blue rides the tides
Box-like brow; dark, scarred and weathered skin
A big, pulsating heart beats steady deep within.

The awesome sperm whale rules deep blue sea
With a massive square head for all world to see
Inside sits the largest brain any animal can claim
And its giant tail-flukes drive it forward like flame.

Diving down into the pitch-black it drops away
Far down below beyond the reach of ocean day
With amazing sonic clicks it paints the icy deep
Where giant squid and ancient shadows creep.

In gentle pods, they hunt and swim side by side
The mother guards calf and face the ocean’s tide
They nurse the young sharing a lifelong bond
Of deep-sea feasts, depths of which they’re fond.
