Met at the dawn of life, with teenage dreams
Two tender hearts truly entwined as it seems
Silent glances weaved some unspoken promises
Love bloomed unnamed in their demure eyes.
But pride and whispers grew, echoed as well
Misunderstanding crept, paths began to unravel
He lost her with a saddened heart torn apart
But he found her dwelling deeper in own heart.
Love lost, yet friendship grew via ink and papers
A harmony with solace reigned for some years
He stepped away lest his life’s uncertain maze
Should cast a shadow that she did not deserve.
Years went by thus, and life took its own pace
He found his voice, but lost his peaceful space
A bittersweet refrain, memories of her lingered
A ‘what-if’ echoed off and on, a warmth remained.
Now the silver years have thinned voice of time
He seeks her footprints in this world’s wide sea
Her occasional words are kind sans former rhyme
But it leaves wondering – what still remains of “we”.
