My Humming Word

  1. Poem

The Armoured Ascetic

The little armoured soul walks the earth
Bears a shell of shields from day of birth
Not rigid stone but the bands that bend
Intertwine flexible skin from end to end
With banded shield and armoured crown
It keeps its watchful gaze often cast down.

Using mighty claws and digging power
They can fashion the earth within an hour
Deep labyrinth homes inside the ground
Where hidden bugs can be quickly found
They do not run; they do not fight
Just vanish quickly from predator’s sight.

To cross the water stream, deep and wide
They just sink right down and walk inside
They hold their breath and march ahead
For a while right on the muddy riverbed
Or even by gulping air, they swell up light
To float and swim at will in waters bright.

Truly a crafty creature, both safe and free
That gained a mastery of land, air and sea.
