My Humming Word

  1. Poem

An Emerald Animalcule

It’s a primal spark from life’s early dawn
Where plant and animal lines are drawn
Neither a beast nor a bloom, it lives between
With the emerald light and predator’s keen.

In stagnant waters where sunlight gleams
It dives through the dark and murky streams
With emerald guts and a lashing tail
A ruby-red eyespot guides it past the veil.

A spindle of jade in a world of glass
Where the shadows of the pond-lilies pass
Neither a root that is confined to the clay
Nor the jaw that hunts for its fleeing prey.

An entity split in two by the turn of the light
A plant by the morning, a beast by the night
No need to mate, no need for a privacy
Through a simple divide, it maps its legacy.
