My Humming Word

We couldn’t perambulate through life together
Nor could live our vivid dreams as a dreamer;
Yet somehow, through the lasting days and years
A part of me kept walking with you as co-farer.

And whenever life, with its tempting ways
Tried to entice my feet towards errant ways;
I found you standing midway with gazing eyes
A restraint what you’d think if we met eye-to-eye.

Though you never asked me to be lofty or great
Nor claimed a role to shape my wandering fate;
Yet the very thought of you, so pious and whole
Kept a little light burning in my heart and soul.

Perhaps in this life we were never meant to be
Our paths were destined to part by fate’s decree;
But for the better person I chose to finally art
I owe a silent gratitude to your beautiful heart.

And if someday our paths indeed may cross
After all the years have flown and felt like loss;
I hope I will be able to face you with grace
On the path you abstractly helped me to embrace.
