My Humming Word

The Pink Fairy Orchid

Where southern winds sweep over the littoral
And sun-dappled heaths of wild Australia wake
The tiny pink charmers bloom bright in the soil
A delicate form that even winter cannot break.

With the silver ribbons anchored in the heath
A blush-pink wing lifts its vibrant crown
A fragile form above the frozen earth
Just waving its petals as the sun goes down.

With striped lip and guiding paths of gold
Orchid lures tiny prey through a sweet deceit
To make sure pollen grains are firmly hold
Before the fleeting season faces imminent heat.

A wonder below the clay, a dormant tuber bides
At rest to spring anew where secret beauty hides.
