My Humming Word

Beneath the pond’s dark and glassy sleep
Where blooming lilies take rest so deep
A slender stalk of the reed-like green
Hydra dances in depths and worlds unseen
Looks like a tiny crown of reaching threads
Where myth and modern science weds.

Named after the multi-headed monster
Slain by Hercules, a mythic Greek warrior
The creature represents a bridge truly
Of the ancient myth and microscopic reality
Many humans keep dreaming and are envy
As it truly lives with biological immortality.

No heart to pump, no brain to think
Yet it is balanced on a timeless brink
Catches shadows, tiny water fleas in the silt
By cellular armour, a coiled barb so finely built
On a brush of skin, it fires a sudden dart
The phantom harpoons play their part.

Should the slender stalk by chance divide
This water king would still maintain its tide
The severed body segment refuses death
Capable of rising again with seamless breath
Each severed part regrows a new crown
Which even the flow of time cannot drown.
