My Humming Word

  1. Poem

The Motivational Speaker

Where marbles once ruled the dust
We met, two boys, returned in frames
Of rust or shine, I guess he’d insist.
His shirt a sheen, his stride a twist
Appeared well-fed in synthetics loud
With a prosperous paunch, firm and proud
While I, in sheer cotton – white yet neat
Grey trousers, quiet with a lighter feet.

“Life?” he boomed with a practiced grin
As if the question paid to come in
I smiled and said: It came, and it went
But left me quieter… as well content
I hinted at storms that trimmed my sail
Of the power tasted, of glitter grown pale
As also how early I learned in life
But not without incurring enough cost
That all we cling & clutch is just transient.

“No baggage now,” I gently said:
Only peace that walks where once I sped.
A simple and quiet life, a modest fare
And enough time to breathe unfiltered air.

He nodded, took a brief pause
Then took the podium with pleasure
For habit survives both youth and age
“My life? Ah! Sumptuous in every way
Be a family, a fortune – a grand display!
“But now,” he winked: With income thin
I’ve figured out a means to still cash in
Now I speak of dreams, of zeal, of fire
Levy a handsome fee to lift them higher.

“A Motivational Speaker”, my dear friend
Now I help forlorn souls find means to spend…
Their doubts, of course! He quickly patched
Though truth and jest were loosely latched.

I watched him glowing in borrowed light
Still racing hard though past the fight…
Full throttle pressed on memory’s track
With the wisdom riding pillion at the back
And there we stood—two tales, two art
One selling fuel, the other anchors heart.
