My Humming Word

I chased a shadow through the shifting light
Until the time she vanished from my sight
Like a fleeting dream dissolving into the night
Or even water seeping through the sand desert.

Then there was a sage in wisdom’s heavy gown
Who held golden words for valuable talk in town
I watched dejectedly as the tower tumbled down
He drifted away like mist over a valley undrawn.

We preen in mirrors, so proud of bone and skin
And cling to self-pride etched in the melting ice
Forgetting fact, despite the spark we hold within
Rarely can we afford the body’s fleeting price.

And love is not a debt that each mind can keep
But light that wakes while all the scholars sleep.
