My Humming Word

In memories
Do we really remember
Years, months or days?

No, we really not…
We remember moments,
Moments in the past
It’s a way of reminiscence
Or reliving our past
It’s a way of holding
A person or thing we love
Or we don’t want to lose.

Memories may fade
Memories undergo a sabbatical
But they don’t ever vanish
They don’t ever die or age
And more we try to forget
More they tend to improve.

Someone rightly said it once
Our affections are our comfort
As also consolation
And memories however sad
Are best and purest link
Between the present and a better.

So I am grateful
To my lost love
And companion
For giving me lessons
How to imagine one
How to dream one
How to adore one
And how to preserve one
In everlasting memories
And footprints on the heart.

And through memories only
I have learnt
How can you leave past behind
When it keeps finding way
Time and again
To your tender heart!
