Upon the sea shores where tides retreat
I see five-armed stars with faint heartbeat
In true sense not a fish, but an echinoderm
Skin quite rough, yet body reasonably firm.
​It exists in hues of crimson, gold, and blue
And creeps on tube feet, hidden from view
Like a keystone guard of the oceanic floor
They balance the reef and the rocky shore.
​High on ladder of boneless, a seaside prize
What a wonder of nature in miniature size.
