My Humming Word

As a prisoner of
Your everlasting memories
And unending thoughts
I used to surmise
Why did you choose
While parting our ways
A life imprisonment
And not a death sentence
As a punishment
For the hurt and pain
Though unintentional
I caused.

After a life span
Now I realize
You were wise
And also discreet
For a capital punishment
Would have meant
End of injury and pain
In a flash of a moment.

But a life imprisonment
Would effectively ensure
The convict dies a death
In every moment
At least till such time
The mortal body lasts
For who has seen soul
Even if it exists.

But you too have erred
And in the process
Have punished yourself
For I am still happy
With some solace
Despite seething pain
Despite parting ways
This way at least
Love is still blooming
With your replica
In my heart.
