My Humming Word

Editor’s Pick

They could have well-nigh serve
Anchors for one another for life
Two innocent souls, a shared horizon
Tethered by unnamed bond and affection
Their eyes served mirrors of the heart.

In that brief yet golden age
They were like a whole world
A sanctuary of shared quietude
An oasis of serene awareness
With infinite, but unspoken care.

Despite his underlying anxiety
He held his serene like a secret
A novice oblivious how to respond or act
While she wore her silence like a veil
Waiting for the word to break the tradition
Waiting for the hand to bridge the gale.

Time is a primal and turbulent ocean
And the stubborn tides, they seldom sleep
The extant current of the modern age
Is quite swift, pretty cold as well deep.

Now twosome adrift in same wide ocean
Under the same vast and impassive sky
Equipped well to speak and communicate
With ample calm, clarity and continuity
Yet choosing the quietude of an adieu.

Like ships docked in the same harbour
Sail towards separate shores for eternity
Navigating their own “reasons”
So also their “justifications”
Adrift on stranger tides, forevermore.
