A centenarian mango tree, branches wide,
Leaves dancing high, wrinkles etched pretty vivid:
Once I stood in Tagore Lawns, a witness to time,
A tale of seasons, in earth’s whispered rhyme.
In summer season’s heat, I offered shade
During torrential rains, I proffered a refuge
With autumn surge, leaves yellow-brown at fall
Sweet fruits, like old memories, recalling it all.
In June’23, unspecified insects took their toll,
Aging I fell that sparked a scholarly scroll
Prof. Sangeeta Rani’s quest of ancient lore…
To Dr. Vandana Prasad, a tree‑ring expert more.
Dr. Akhilesh Yadav toiled to sum up my rings deep,
And reckoned my age near hundred years, to keep
Thus my age nearly synced with university’s life
Past British Raj and Swaraj, in humanities & science.
Although only trunk now rests, my saga lives on
My sincere wish; Lucknow University carries on
In contributing to society’s growth, rise and sway
A hundred‑year tale of aging, under nature’s sway.
