As long as I have a want
I have a reason for living
For satisfaction is death:
Quote credited to GB Shaw.
The day a man feels contented
His body and soul are in peace
The purpose of the life is met
Undoubtedly, he is jeevan-mukt.
Note: George Bernard Shaw is a big name as an Irish playwright, critic, polemicist and political activist of the last century. His opinion represents the traditional approach of the Western civilization (cultures and religions) which seldom saw the purpose of life beyond material possessions and enjoyment. On the other hand, the rishis (scholars and thinkers) in Hinduism (Sanatana Dharma) had learnt thousands’ years ago the futileness of the attachment for the material possessions. the Second stanza represents the Sanatana way of life, the synergy of material and spiritual life, and attainment of salvation while still living i.e. jeevan-mukt.
