My Humming Word

Editor’s Choice

He was in search of peace,
Peace of the mind and soul
As he didn’t have any clue
Where and how to achieve
So he tried it in a matrimony
Spent wealth on wine & women
And visited some brothels even
Made bid on horses in racecourse
Indulged in some sports and cards
Wandered in cities and countryside
Sought a refuge to spiritual discourse
Even scaled heights of mighty Himalayas.
In a nutshell, he resorted to all diversions
Of the mundane life in this material world
Yet his mind and soul remained turbulent
With the inner peace eluding him for long.

Disillusioned, one day
He finally renounced it all
And opted for a small hut
At the banks of holy Ganges
Thus settled in the lap of nature
With minimum basic needs of life,
Viz. the clothes, food and shelter.
Relinquishment of the fascination
And cravings for the material world
Led to his inner peace and satisfaction.
Henceforth, happy and self-contented
He lived ever there in bliss and peace.

So the peace of mind and soul
Is essentially a state of equanimity
With inner calmness and tranquility
It comes with a sense of freedom
When desires and worries wither
Without any stress, strain or fear
And this position is not impossible
If one takes a bit attention and care.

Even in person’s mundane daily life
One could attain some peace of mind
Being with people he loves and cares
Reading a piece of choice literature
Or simply lying in the lap of nature….
But there are some essential dos
If one could really practice in life:
To resist craving for ‘recognition’
To learn ‘forget and forgive’
To endure if you can’t cure
To accept if it can’t change
And the last piece of wisdom –
To cultivate patience and tolerance.
